Picture Keeper (Review & giveaway!)

We have so many pictures on our computer, and they are not safe sitting there. I have already had one of our computer's crash, and lost several precious pictures on that hard drive. We are hoping to restore that hard drive (somehow) and I am hoping to get those photos back~ especially my daughter's birth photos!
I was so excited to review the Picture Keeper, designed by Matthew Stanchie in 2006. His friend lost all her photos after a lightning storm, and this inspired him to create/design the Picture Keeper. Before developing Picture Keeper, Stanchie had spent 15 years working for industry leaders Hewlett-Packard, IBM and GE in their IT support and solutions departments. In one of his first positions, he introduced the Windows PC to corporate consumers who, more often than not, had never even used a mouse. Through his work with 4000 computer novices, Stanchie learned the importance of backing up data-- at the time using floppy disks, to ensure his clients never lost valuable information.
I think that the Picture Keeper is an amazing product, and I think everyone that owns a computer, and does any kind of photo uploads should have a Picture Keeper! I couldn't believe how easy it was to use! All I did was take it out of the packaging, and stick it into my computer's USB port. Once I started the program, I created a backup of all my photos! I was amazed that this product could store all my photos, and still has room for more photo storage! I was able to make changes to the settings and backup all my photos and my husband's (from his storage). We could also get our photos from all drives on our computer. I really think that is amazing! I like that I can bring the Picture Keeper to my family and friend's homes and share my photos. I can also just bring the Picture Keeper to a photo location to upload and order my photos.
Some helpful facts:
The Picture Keeper can be used with multiple computers, Mac and PC.
The Picture Keeper is designed to plug into a digital photo frame, which makes for an instant slide show.
You can plug the Picture Keeper in your USB port over and over, and it will find new or changed files and copy those to the Picture Keeper~ without copying ones you already backed up. That is a great feature! So often I have to sort through endless pictures/folders to see if I have already uploaded them from our camera. It can be such a chore. I think that the feature of already knowing what photos are stored, is great!
I know that the Picture Keeper is a life saver in our home, and we will be using ours always! No more lost photos with a computer crash~ as long as I always backup my photos!
The Picture Keeper comes in three sizes (4GB, 8GB & 16GB).
4GB- Holds up to 4,000 (1MB) images SRP $29.99
8GB- Holds up to 8,000 (1MB) images SRP $39.99
16GB- Holds up to 16,000 (1MB) images SRP $59.99
Plus, they're working on an external hard drive version which would be able to hold 100 to 300+GB!! There is a very helpful step-by-step guide on the Picture Keeper website that helps users find out how much space you will need to backup your images. While on the website, you can sign-up to receive Backup Reminders from Picture Keeper, so you’ll never forget when it’s time to backup your images.
Picture Keeper just won a Dr. Toy Best Vacation Products for Summer 2009 award! Well deserved, too!
Would you like to win a Picture Keeper? I know you would be thrilled to own one of these great storage devices for your precious memories! This contest is open to those in the United States and will end on July 10th, 2009. Tell me in the comments which size you would need for your computer for your chance to win! For extra chances you can: blog this contest, add my button to your site, subscribe to my blog, twitter and/or facebook this contest, and/or visit everyday and add another friendly comment. Don't forget to put the extra comments for the "extra" work. Good luck!

Operation Kid-to-Kid: serving needy children around the world

What do think about when you read headlines about economic hardships, natural disasters, and politically charged conflict? Circumstances like these set families and entire communities reeling, and few people are affected as profoundly as the children involved. How do the littlest victims cope with the changes and uncertainty around them? And what can the church do to reach out specifically to these little ones?
Group Publishing, the premier publishers of children’s Bible curriculum including Sunday school and VBS, believes that some of the best ministers to children experiencing disaster and hardship are other children. That’s why they have created a program called Operation Kid-to-Kid (OK2K), which partners with nondenominational Christian ministries like International Bible Society and World Vision to provide opportunities for children in North America to share God’s love with other children in difficult or disastrous situations. Since its inception ten years ago, Operation Kid-to-Kid projects have impacted millions of kids all over the world.
“Operation Kid-to-Kid is a great way to teach kids compassion and service,” says Joani Schultz, cofounder of Group and OK2K. “Children learn by doing. It’s one thing to drop a nickel in the offering plate, but when kids make a gift with their own hands, when they can be creative and personal, this leaves a real impression on both the givers and the receivers.”
Q: What is Operation Kid-to-Kid™?
A: Operation Kid-to-Kid™ is a partnership of Group Publishing, Inc. and nondenominational Christian organizations dedicated to creating hands-on service projects for children in North America. Operation Kid-to-Kid™ projects have ministered to kids all over the world. Over the years, Group’s Operation Kid-to-Kid™ has become one of the largest forces mobilizing children in serving other children around the world. Millions have been impacted with gifts of comfort critters, school supplies, Bibles, hygiene kits, Christmas gifts, Bible coloring books, and socks and shoes. Operation Kid-to-Kid™ gives children a meaningful service project that will change their hearts as they help change the world.
Q: What is a Comfort Critter? Where do I get the Comfort Critters?
A: Comfort Critters are adorable, easy-to-assemble crafts designed especially for kids to make and receive. Custom-made Comfort Critters are available from Group and Group suppliers. This year’s special critter is a cuddly little turtle that reads “God Cares” and features a pocket so each child can include a special message to another child in need.
Q: We all want to teach our kids about God’s compassion. Why are the Operation Kid-to-KidTM Comfort Critters so effective for this purpose?
A: Children learn by doing. While activities like collecting spare change definitely serve a good purpose, it’s hard for young children, who don’t really understand the value of money yet, to understand how the money they collect will minister to other children. But all children know what it’s like to be scared or lonely. They know how a teddy bear, stuffed animal, or blankie makes them feel better. As they use their own hands to make these little turtles, they are creating personal, tangible expressions of compassion. The handy sewn in pocket gives them the opportunity to send a message from their own hearts. And because they make two turtles—one to give away and one to keep—they will have a touchable reminder that other children are struggling and in need of compassion and comfort.
Q: How many Comfort Critters will I need?
A: You will need two for each child participating—one for them to keep, and one to give away.
Q: Can I use a different Comfort Critter for our church service project?
A: Not if you are distributing it through International Bible Society for disaster relief. They’re counting on receiving these Comfort Critters with the special message of God’s love. IBS has learned it’s important that items distributed to children should be identical. No child should feel less special because his or her Comfort Critter doesn’t look like the others.
Q: Do I have to send my Comfort Critters to the International Bible Society for distribution?
A: Feel free to tweak your Operation Kid-to-Kid™ program. You can use your Comfort Critters as a local community service project—or send the items with your church mission team.
Q: Besides the Comfort Critters, what other Operation Kid-to-Kid™ projects can my group participate in?
A: There are so many ways to involve children in ministry throughout the year. Through the Rome VBS program, you can send monthly Bible readers to children in the underground church around the world. Since it is dangerous for these children to own a Bible, these comic book-style readers offer much needed encouragement.
The Operation Kid-to-Kid Prayer Bear missions program warms hearts and minds and allows children to share the joy of God’s love. Kids will learn what it means to help others as they create a Prayer Bear that says “Jesus” in English, Spanish, and French. Plus, everyone can personalize a message to put in their Bear’s pocket to send to an orphan in Africa. Join us in one of the world’s largest forces mobilizing kids in serving others around the world.
This easy, hands-on mission program can serve those in your local community, be sent to military personnel, or simply be sent to the International Bible Society for distribution to children around the world.

WiggleTime (an online game source)

Recently, I was asked to review a fun new site featuring The Wiggles! My son and daughter really enjoy the Wiggles, and since we have ended our cable, it was fun to bring the Wiggles into our home from the computer. WiggleTime.com is a fun virtual world where my son (with my help) was able to create/design his character and play in the Wiggle World. He really enjoyed playing, exploring and being challenged in the online world.
WiggleTime.com was designed with the preschooler in mind. WiggleTime.com has been designed to provide pre-schoolers with their first introduction to the Internet in a fun, safe, educational and ad-free environment. Created as an early childhood developmental tool for both toddlers and their parents, it will be the ultimate online destination for children to learn while they play. I think that WiggleTime is a great way to introduce the internet to my preschooler, and he can get an idea how to use the keyboard and mouse.
Caleb's character (which we designed together) in Wiggle Time drove the Big Red Car, and had fun visiting different Wiggle locations like the Wigglehouse, Dorothy’s House, Wag’s Kennel, Captain Feathersword’s SS Feathersword, and Henry’s Underwater World. Caleb loved interacting with Wag best. Every time we checked out each location, we could watch a video and/or play games. The educational games are the primary focus of Wiggle Time and aid in the development of your child's numeracy, literacy, creativity and motor skills. Also, as your child progresses, the levels of each game get a bit more challenging.

WiggleTime.com can be experienced absolutely free of charge, for limited access and two video clips a month. To maximize the full potential of WiggleTime.com, subscriptions are available. Pay as you go, Monthly recurring and yearly subscriptions are available. The small subscription fee comes to under $6.00 a month and provides premium access to Wiggletime.com for up to four children on one account!

Special UNICEF subscriptions will also unlock more fun in the Wiggle Time world while donating a portion of the proceeds to UNICEF.

By subscribing to Wiggle Time, parents will have access to a number of tools including:

  • Progress reports that allow you to track your child’s activity while on Wiggle Time. These reports will provide you some observational based information on the games, activities and videos your child interacts with.
  • Access to a wealth of information on early learning techniques, including healthy eating, water safety, physical activity and toilet training.
Special promotions & product offerings (including pre-sale tickets to Wiggles concerts)

The Wiggle Time design is wonderful, creative and very kid-friendly. I really like the feature of a time out for the kids. Wiggle Time designed the virtual world to give kids a time out, due to time on the computer!

I am glad that I had the opportunity to review Wiggle Time. I did think that the site ran a bit slow, but I am told that they are working out that glitch. Seeing my son enjoy this virtual world and interacting with the characters of the Wiggles, was a fun experience.

Dance Me, Daddy! (book review and 2 giveaways)

There is something so special in the relationship between a Father and his Daughter, and what better time than Father's Day than to celebrate that relationship! I have recently been given the opportunity to review a very sweet book written by Cindy Morgan. I love this book, and it brought me to tears. Dance Me, Daddy is a book about a little girl and her Daddy. The book goes through the stages of this little girl's life, and her desire to dance with her Daddy. The book starts out with the little girl so young (about 2 years old) and she is in her princess gown. (This reminds me of the stage my daughter is in right now...dress up clothes, crown, and our little princess).
The daughter holds much admiration for her daddy, he is her hero and she's her daddy's girl. The little girl asks her Dad this special request, "Dance me, Daddy. Dance me around. Don't let my feet ever touch down. There's nothing better than being your girl. If I am your princess, then you are king of the world." The girl grows up into the teen years, and things change. Some things don't change, though, like his daughter wanting to dance with her dad. Then, the daughter marries, and you can about guess what happens on her wedding night.
I love this book, and I cherish the message in it. The relationship is so strong between Father and Daughter. I think Cindy Morgan portrayed this relationship so well! This story is actually written for Cindy's husband and their daughter. This is somewhat of a true story displayed in the pages of a children's book. Included in the book is a CD with a song "King of the World," sung by Point of Grace, the story Dance Me, Daddy read by Cindy Morgan, and the inspiration behind the book.
Cindy Morgan is a wife, mother, and singer/songwriter. She has recorded 8 records, had 20 number-one songs, and has won nine Dove Awards during her career, including her most recent Dove Awards for 2008 Songwriter of the Year and 2008 Country Song of the Year for "How You Live," the song she wrote for Point of Grace. Cindy, and her husband, novelist Sigmund Brouwer, and their 2 daughters, Olivia and Savannah, live in Canada and Tennessee.
Philomena O'Neill is the illustrator in Dance Me, Daddy, and she did a superb job! I love the expressions on the faces. Philomena has illustrated numerous books for children including The Thanksgiving Bowl (Pelican, 2007) and The Little Shrew Caboose (Pleasant St. Press, Spring 2009). She lives in Seattle with her husband.
I have TWO copies that I am fortunate to giveaway! I am sorry that you won't have these in time for Father's Day, but everyday is special with Dad, right? So, you can give this book as a gift anytime!
For your chance to win this wonderful book, tell me what your plans are for Father's Day! Contest open to those in the USA, and will end on June 30th. Please feel free to do the extra credits (see past contests).
We are daughters of the King! We will someday dance in the arms of our heavenly father.

Looking for a book to give Dad for Father's Day?

I was given three books to review in time for Father's Day. There were three books covering three different types of books. The first one is an insightful one, and one that will challenge your faith and beliefs. The second book is a book of self-discovery and who God sees in you. The last book is a great book geared toward the tween or teen child, and could be one that a Father could read with his son....take a peek at the descriptions.
The Disappearance of God
More faulty information about God swirls around us today than ever before. No wonder so many followers of Christ are unsure of what they really believe in the face of the new spiritual openness attempting to alter unchanging truth. For centuries the church has taught and guarded the core Christian beliefs that make up the essential foundations of the faith. But in our postmodern age, sloppy teaching and outright lies create rampant confusion, and many Christians are free-falling for “feel-good” theology. We need to know the truth to save ourselves from errors that will derail our faith. As biblical scholar, author, and president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Dr. Albert Mohler, writes, “The entire structure of Christian truth is now under attack.” With wit and wisdom he tackles the most important aspects of these modern issues: Is God changing His mind about sin?Why is hell off limits for many pastors? What’s good or bad about the “dangerous” emergent movement? Have Christians stopped seeing God as God?Is the social justice movement misguided?Could the role of beauty be critical to our theology? Is liberal faith any less destructive than atheism? Are churches pandering to their members to survive? In the age-old battle to preserve the foundations of faith, it's up to a new generation to confront and disarm the contemporary shams and fight for the truth. Dr. Mohler provides the scriptural answers to show you how. $14.99 from Random House, Inc.

Eyes Wide Open
I had it all backwards. The main thing wasnot my love for God, but his love for me. And from that love I respond to God as one deeply flawed, yet loved. I’m not looking to prove my worth. I’m not searching for acceptance. I’m living out of the worth God already declares I have. I’m embracing his view of me and in the process discovering the person he created me to be.

In Eyes Wide Open, Jud Wilhite invites you to discover the real you. Not the you who pretends to be perfect to satisfy everyone’s expectations. Not the you who always feels guilty before God. Not the you who secretly feels God forgives everyone else but only tolerates you. Not the you who looks in the mirror and sees a failure. The real you, loved and forgiven by God, living out of your identity in Christ.A travel guide through real spirituality from one incomplete person to another, Eyes Wide Open is a book of stories about following God in the messes of life, about broken pasts and our lifelong need for grace. It is a book about seeing ourselves and God with new eyes–eyes wide open to a God of love. $13.99 From Random House, Inc.

Sir Dalton and the Shadow Heart
Sir Dalton, a knight in training, seems to have everything going for him.Young, well-liked, and a natural leader, he has earned the respect and admiration of his fellow knights, and especially the beautiful Lady Brynn. But something is amiss at the training camp. Their new trainer is popular but lacks the passion to inspire them to true service to the King and the Prince. Besides this, the knights are too busy enjoying a season of good times to be concerned with a disturbing report that many of their fellow Knights have mysteriously vanished. When Sir Dalton is sent on a mission, he encounters strange attacks, especially when he is alone. As his commitment wanes, the attacks grow in intensity until he is captured by Lord Drox, a massive Shadow Warrior. Bruised and beaten, Dalton refuses to submit to evil and initiates a daring escape with only one of two outcomes–life or death. But what will become of the hundreds of knights he’ll leave behind? In a kingdom of peril, Dalton thinks he is on his own, but two faithful friends have not abandoned him, and neither has a strange old hermit who seems to know much about the Prince. But can Dalton face the evil Shadow Warrior again and survive? $8.99 from Random House, Inc.

Treat Dad to a Frosty at Wendy's for Father's Day!!

It is great having two days out of the year to celebrate two of the most important people in our lives: Mom & Dad! Since Father's Day is coming up, I would like to let you in on a few things you can do to make your Dad, Grandpa, your children's Dad, or another Dad feel special! Making that special "Dad" feel special doesn't require a ton of money necessarily, but just spending some good quality time with them would do it!
Since our family loves ice cream for a treat, or dessert rather, we may just see ourselves heading to Wendy's for an after-dinner Frosty, and in the process feel great about supporting a worthy charitable cause while enjoying a favorite summer treat. For the past three years, Wendy's has made it a Father's Day Frosty Weekend tradition to donate 50 cents from the sale of each Frosty to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The money raised goes to the Wendy's Wonderful Kids program, which funds full-time adoption recruiters at local agencies across the U.S., who in turn pair up parents with foster care children needing homes. So, you and your family can enjoy a tasty (and affordable!) Frosty together, knowing this campaign assists children across the country in finding a family of their own. Involve the kids in this great cause by having them create a fun Father's Day e-Card on FrostyCard.com. For every card they send, Wendy's will donate an additional 25 cents to the Dave Thomas Foundation. Kids can attach coupons for "taking out the trash" or "washing the car" onto the cards for Dad.
So, head on over to Wendy's this weekend to support a great cause, and also treat your Dad to a treat!
Thanks MomCentral for this blog opportunity and information to share with my readers!

Sparklehearts (Organic Skincare) Review and Giveaway!

I love when Moms invent a great product that not only works great, but it is safe to use with our children. Moms know what is best, right? I was very anxious to review the new line of bath products from Sparklehearts! I was sent a bottle of Shine Shampoo and Rainbow Soft Conditioner. I love the smell, and so do my children! I think it smells like a sweet berry, like strawberries. We use the Shampoo every bath time, and the kids love pumping the soap into their own hands. The Shampoo lathers well, and after one pump, I even have enough to wash their ears and neck.
I love the Sparklehearts products because they are free of harmful ingredients that many other hair care, and body products carry. Sparklehearts products have real and natural ingredients like Shea Butter, coconut, essential oils, green tea extract and more. I can feel confident that the ingredients won't hurt my kids, or be harmful on their skin.
The other Sparklehearts product I tried was the Rainbow Soft Conditioner. I am also very impressed with it! My daughter's hair can get so snarly, especially in the morning after sleeping. She has such curly hair. I love putting the Rainbow Soft conditioner in her hair because it makes her hair silky-smooth. I think that the name is very fitting, because it does what it says..."soft." It even keeps her hair more manageable after hours of sleeping on it! That is impressive!
Sparklehearts was created by Moms for their daughters. After having a hard time finding good hair care products for their daughters, Hilary Orr and Darcy McMahon, researched and designed the Sparklehearts line. Hilary's daughter came up with the name, and it is quite fitting for the natural, chemical-free products!
Another great feature of the Sparklehearts products is they are USA made, never tested on animals and are packaged bottles using 100% post-consumer recycled materials. There are currently five Sparklehearts products to choose from: Shine Shampoo and Rainbow Soft Conditioner (I tested these two, and I absolutely love them....and so do my kids)!, Peace Out No Knots Hair Detangler, Bubbling Blooms Body Wash and Sweet Hearts Sparkly Body Lotion. Each of Sparklehearts products are $12.49.
Sparklehearts website can be a fun place for girls to check out for more than the products they carry! Girls can also log on to sparklehearts.com to read about their products, become a fan of them on Facebook or create their own Sparkleheart design, or create a Sparkleheart e-card. The free design program makes it easy for anyone to create their own colorful, personalized design. When they’re finished, users can either save it to their computer to use as wallpaper, or print it onto an iron-on transfer for a one-of-a-kind T-shirt!
Want to win some Sparklehearts? You can enter to win one of the 5 products available. Please go to the Sparklehearts site and pick out your favorite, or the one you would like to try most. For an extra chance to win, you can become a fan of theirs on facebook. (you can also do the "extra credits" I offer for my giveaways~see past contests). This contest is open to those in the USA and will end on June 30th.

Father's Day cards from Hallmark (giveaway~ 4 winners)

With Father's Day just around the corner, it is a good time to check out the card selections from Hallmark. Hallmark has put a whole new twist on card giving, and making the receiver feel extra special. I was given the chance to review the Recordable Father's Day cards from Hallmark. These cards are similar to the music filled cards, but you can record your (or your child's) voice with the simple push of a button. When the card is opened by the receiver, they hear the recorded message, followed by a pre-recorded sound clip. You get 10 seconds to record your message. I love that I can re-record over the recording if the first round didn't succeed, especially when it is my children doing the recordings. Kids have things that come up when they are recording and it is nice to have a few more tries at it.
Caleb, Madelyn and I had fun recording messages to fill in the card. We made a recording in a card for Daddy ~Caleb and Maddie did their recording in their own card. Caleb loved the Superman card he is going to give his Dad. Of coarse, Madelyn loved the Disney Princess card she is going to give her Dad with the, "I love you, Daddy," message she spoke into his card. We also recorded a message in Grandpa's card (who lives in Alaska). I really like the Looney Tunes Card we got to review, because it has a spot in it for a photo insert. I am excited to send off my Father-in-law's card, so we can get a family photo in the mail to him. I am sure these cards will be treasured with the personal messages inside. My kids loved hearing their voices in the cards, too! Hallmark's Recordable cards have a suggested retail value of $6.99 a piece.
Hallmark also has a new collection of “everyday” cards – each only 99 cents – that feature vibrant, colorful designs and special design elements not usually found in previous 99-cent collections. The new 99-cent cards cover a wide variety of situations — birthday, thinking of you, friendship, encouragement, and more. You can check out some of the new 99-cent cards on Hallmark's site.

Want to win an assortment of Hallmark cards to use for different occasions? Hallmark is sponsoring a giveaway for my readers! Each winner will receive 5 cards each, with four winners picked! To enter this contest, leave a comment about card giving, or something you found out while looking at the Hallmark website. This contest is open to those in the USA, and will end on June 30. Feel free to do the extra credits I offer for the giveaways. (see past giveaways).

How about some flowers? Giveaway and chance to win flowers!

I love getting flowers, especially when it is a surprise! My husband doesn't always think to get flowers, but he does know I like to receive them. Really, he thinks that flowers are a waste of money because they don't last very long. However, they make my day more special, and usually he is shown how much I appreciate the gift of flowers. Family Review Network recently introduced me to a company that makes HINT CARDS which are cards to get your "hint" out that you would love to get flowers. I think this is a great idea, because guys don't always think of flowers. They have so much on their minds with work, kids, family, obligations....etc., that I think they need a bit of a hint to help them out. I think the gift of flowers just shows such appreciation, and as a mom, it is great to get flowers....especially California Grown flowers!
I got a beautiful bouquet of flowers from California Cut Flowers to review, along with
the hint cards. I loved the flowers!! I have never received flowers in the mail before! They came in a box, wrapped in plastic (lady bug) wrap, with flower "food." The flowers were fresh, and smelled wonderful!
Tucked inside were the Hint Cards. I think these cards say just enough to prod your special someone to let them know you would love to have some flowers. You can stick the cards in a lunch pail, inside a book (like the checkbook), inside a wallet (next to the debit card) or on the dash of their vehicle. I like the fun sayings on the cards. One example is: "Flowers make a girl happy. And you know what happens when this girl is happy... ;) " I think these cards would be a hit in the floral shops, and also the other stores...so we can hint to our hubby's about getting flowers. I highly recommend California cut flowers! They are so beautiful, last long, and smell great! I love the mixed bouquet! You can see in the pictures how pretty they are. Would you like to receive some flowers from your sweetheart? You can enter to win a set of hint cards. There will be 25 winners! To enter this contest, you need to leave a comment about how you would use the Hint Cards or who you would give them to.
So, this contest is open to those in the USA, and will end on June 22. Feel free to do the extra credits I offer for the giveaways. (see past giveaways).

Kernel Season's "Get the Party Popping" Giveaway!!

I recently had the opportunity to review for Kernel Seasons, and I didn't mind one bit! I LOVE popcorn, and my whole family enjoys popcorn snacking. So, trying the Kernel Seasons popcorn, toppings, and spray...was not a difficult thing. I love popping corn by hand, and I must say that the Kernel Seasons corn pops up so fluffy, and it is so tasty! I have compared it to other brands, and Kernel Seasons tastes better and pops up better by far. I was sent a couple bags of microwave pop corn, 1 bag of stove top popping corn, popcorn spritzer, and a few seasoning flavors. I enjoy it all!! My family looks forward to eating Kernel Seasons popcorn, and love watching it pop! Plus, I love that popcorn is a low calorie food, especially when I use the Kernel Seasons spritzer (no cal.)!
I was sent a fact sheet of tips & suggestions to enjoy your popcorn even more. I would love to share them with you!
Popcorn As a Snack & Food Ingredient:
Among the healthiest low-calorie food items, popcorn is a whole grain that is low in calories and fat and is a complex carbohydrate. Follow these simple suggestions to increase daily fiber intake:
· Top soup or salad servings with popcorn instead of crouton for a healthier alternative
· Season popcorn with spices or seasonings to create a lightly flavored savory treat
· Combine popcorn with dried fruit and nuts to create a custom snack mix
· Create popcorn dessert bars (can provide recipe); tint liquid mixture for different holidays such Halloween (orange and black) or Christmas (red and green)
· Involve your kids in making flavored popcorn treat bags (can provide recipe) - easy to make and throw in backpack as a delicious and nutritious on the go snack. Children can mix and match the flavors to create their own unique gourmet popcorn concoctions.
Popcorn Craft Activities:
For just pennies, crafts with popped corn provide hours of at-home fun. Try these simple, cost-efficient activities with supplies likely to already be on hand.
· Popcorn holiday sheep - draw a sheep's head and feet on construction paper. Let children fill in the body with popped popcorn. ( Adapt to any white animal shape)
· Feed birds by stringing popcorn and cut up apples. Hang on a fence post for a backyard feast. Birds will use leftover string when building nests.
· Form holiday shapes (pumpkins, snowmen, etc.) from a mixture of warm popcorn and melted marshmallows. Work quickly with small batches to create desired form. Embellish with candy and other food decorations.
Popcorn in Games And Trivia: According to the U.S. Popcorn Board, the United States produces nearly 500,000 tons of popcorn every year making it a quintessential American favorite with uses that extend beyond the kitchen. Play these fun games during after school play dates, family night, or other special occasions.
· Play the popcorn game: Encourage kids to jump around and pretend they are popcorn kernels popping. Learn why corn pops and share this with kids while they are playing.
· Bobbing for Popcorn Balls: Tie popcorn balls to strings suspended from up high. Have kids stand next to balls and try to eat them without using their hands.
~~This is one of my favorites, and my kids enjoy this one!! ~~
· Sing I'm A Little Kernel to the melody of I'm a Little Teapot using the following lyrics:
I'm a little kernel in a pot,
Turn on the heat and
Watch me hop.
When I get all warmed up,
Then I'll pop,
Yumm, I taste good when I'm hot!
· Popcorn Trivia: Prepare simple popcorn trivia questions and answers such as...
Q: How high can popcorn pop? A: As high as three feet.
Q: Who ate popcorn like breakfast cereal with milk? A: American Pilgrims.
Q: How much popcorn will one cup of kernels make? A: One cup of kernels can make a whopping 40 cups of popped popcorn

You can enter to win a "Get the Party Popping!" popcorn package from Kernel Seasons!
The giveaway package will include the following:
- A bag of stove top popping corn
- Three bags of microwave popcorn
- Popcorn spritzer
- Six different seasoning flavors.
This contest is open to USA residents, and will end on June 30th. Please leave a comment pertaining to popcorn, movies, snacks, or family fun events. Feel free to do the extra credits I offer with my giveaways (just be sure to leave the separate comments to get the credit).

Look who's eating cereal...

Mommy says, "Open up....MMMmmmm...Yum!"
(Cole is thinking) Hmmm....What is this stuff? Tastes pretty good~ I think I like it.
Oh, I think I can handle eating this. Yeah, I like it. (sorry the picture is a little blurred)
C'mon, give me some more, please. Can you be a little quicker, please?

Cole's first time with cereal was on Monday, June 8th. He loves cereal so far. First time I made it with warm water, and second time I made it with apple juice. He likes the water made version, but the apple juice....well, not so much.

Happy (belated) Birthday ~ Caleb

My dear, sweet Caleb turned 4 years old on May 25th. I wanted to get this up earlier, like close to the date of his birth, but I had so much with recovery from surgery...not blogging much, and just being busy. I wanted to make this post special, and didn't want to just throw it together.
Caleb was my biggest baby at 8 pounds 14 ounces, 20 1/2 inches long. He was born around 7 in the evening. (sorry, don't remember...but it is in the baby book). Having Caleb 6 1/2 years after Nathaniel, made it seem like I was a new mom all over again. I experienced a lot of "new mommy" things again, too.
So precious in His Sight....and ours!! So sweet my little Caleb.
Caleb turned 4 years old on May 25th. I can't believe that he is 4 already! Time goes so quickly! Caleb is mine and Terry's honeymoon baby. He was born 3 days after his "due date." It is quite funny about the due date, because he was due on the 22nd of May. Well, Terry, Nathaniel, and I all have birthdays on the 22nd, so having Caleb due on the 22nd was really quite coincidental. He wanted to have his own date, though. :)
Here is a few recent pictures of Caleb as a 4 year old. He is just so cute! What a handsome guy!

When Caleb was younger, he used to do this and just shake. He was excited! It made us laugh so hard! He knew how to make people laugh at a young age.
Yes, he figured out how that remote worked early, too. He definitely can figure things out, and loves to see how things operate. He loves to build, too.
Caleb was 2 years old in this picture.
Here is Caleb at his birthday party (May 24th). He had some friends over, G'ma & G'pa O. and G'ma Cheryl. He had a lot of fun with playing, water gun shooting, cake & ice cream. He loves parties. He really enjoys his friendships, too. I am sure we will be working hard on this puzzle for awhile.
Just like his brother, he is really getting into Bionicles. I am not sure if he likes them because Nathaniel does, or if he just likes to build them. We shall see.
Caleb is a funny little guy. He keeps us laughing with all the funny and witty things he says. He is our "memo" child....he remembers everything (mostly) and if we ask him to remind us of something...he 99% remembers. He really has quite an amazing memory. Terry and I are constantly awed by what he can remember and how he is so good with remembering people's names.
Here is a picture of Caleb, Dad and some friends loading their ammunition (aka water) into their guns. It was fun to see them getting the adults wet.
Caleb had fun blowing out the candles, and licking off the frosting.
Caleb was excited about getting a Leapster, too. He has played with it almost everyday since his birthday. I think this is a great educational toy. I am sure it will create hours of fun, and learning.
Some of Caleb's favorite shows/movies are: Bob the Builder, Shaun the Sheep, Toy Story, the Rescue Heroes, and Thomas & Friends. He enjoys building with his tool set, digging in the dirt, swinging high (and he just learned how to pump), riding his bike, drawing/coloring, playing with his rescue heroes, playing his musical instruments, singing, dressing up in play clothes, and playing with his train set. Caleb loves to dress himself every morning. He is potty trained, but he mostly loves going outside. (big time deal for him!!) He is a hard sleeper, and has a bit of trouble waking up at night, but we are trying to get him up in the night to go. He is really excited to start pre-school home school this fall. I think he will do great! He can count to 20, knows all of his colors, and is doing the skipping/jumping/hopping. Caleb loves to climb trees and explore outside. He is getting into the lake and playing in the water this year. That makes me a little worried, but Terry is reminding me that is alright. :)
Caleb's favorite foods are cheeseburgers, and hot dishes. He loves spaghetti and any other noodle/meat combo. His favorite restaurant is the Chinese buffet, and he loves to go there. He is a very busy 4 year old, and thinks that he can use any piece of furniture for his trampoline. He needs to run everyday, and loves to throw footballs. He is always telling us he wants to be in football and baseball. Sometimes soccer is a sport he wants to do, but usually football and baseball are the choice picks. He has an amazing throw with either his left or right hand, and he can throw really far.
Caleb is a very kind hearted kid, and loves his brothers and sister. He is a classic middle child~ the peace maker. He does not like it when his older brother or sister gets disciplined. He gets upset with Terry or I when we discipline them. He loves to tackle his siblings, and is really enjoying making Cole giggle.
We love you so much Caleb! We thank God for you, and we pray that you will continue to grow, seek God, and love HIM with all of your heart! You are a joy and a blessing!

Celebrate Life with Truffles!! ~Chocolate giveaway!!

I don't know what it is, but lately, I just love chocolate. I really didn't get cravings for chocolate, or really felt like I "need" chocolate. Things have changed. I admit, I love and crave chocolate. I think Family Review Network knew I was craving chocolates, because I was asked and selected to review for the company Celebrate Life Nutrition! I was sent some wonderful chocolate samples that were going to work for my good! I was sent 2 boxes of truffles to sample, and these truffles are made with the intent to satisfy and control my hunger! First of all, I love the taste of the Celebrate Chocolates! I had a variety pack that had 3 pieces of chocolate in it~ three different flavors, called the Celebrate Truffle Creations. I loved the design/look on the chocolates. There was a Cherry, Almond, and Raspberry chocolate. I think my favorite was the Raspberry. My kids tasted the chocolates, and loved the taste, too. My son said they had a weird after taste, but I didn't think so.
The other box of chocolates I got to review was the Celebrate Truffle Classics: which had 3 pieces of dark (73% cocoa) and light chocolate (62% cocoa). I am not usually a dark chocolate fan, but the dark chocolates from Celebrate Nutrition is really good. I love that the company uses natural products, and that I can read and understand the ingredients. No chemicals. Celebrate Nutrition uses a rare cocoa: Criollo cocoa. Along with the cocoa, they use a special blend of natural plant oils - Avocado, Macadamia nut, and Hemp seed oils.
Controlling your appetite can be a challenge, but Celebrate Nutrition offers a solution to controlling your hunger by eating a couple of pieces 15-20 minutes before meals, or when you feel hungry. I tried this out, and it seems to work pretty good. I am not sure if it is because I am eating a yummy chocolate, or if it is because the chocolate is somewhat filling. I didn't feel extremely hungry when we were sitting down to eat.
Either way, it was a great option to have a treat before a meal.
Celebrate Nutrition Chocolates are to savor, taste, think about, share (OK, maybe not share) but definitely enjoy! Speaking of sharing...
We get to host a giveaway here sponsored from Celebrate Nutrition!! One USA winner will receive: 2 boxes of chocolates (like the ones I got), plus samples of the new products. (lucky!) The rules are this: bookmark www.CelebrateLifeNutrition.com. Contest ends on June 16th, 2009.
You may enter again (for extra credits) AFTER you do the first rule.
More chances to win: blog this contest, add my button to your page, subscribe to sassyfrazz, follow me on twitter, visiting/commenting everyday, commenting on other posts, etc. Just leave separate comments for each "extra credit" you do, so you can get the credit.
