Christmas time is a great time for celebrations and family gatherings. This time of year can also mean using the fireplace or wood stoves for heat, warmth, or just that added ambiance to your festivities. Another great ambiance to the festivities are candles burning and ovens baking with delicious treats. We like to decorate with trees and wreaths, and other fun decorations.
Many of us don't think about candles, trees/wreaths, ovens baking and fires putting our homes and families at risk. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, nearly 47,000 household fires occur during the holidays each year. Misplaced or dry decorations mixed with fires and candles can lead to injuries, the loss of property, and even to lost lives, a tragedy which most families fail to consider amidst their festive holiday planning. In preparation for this year's holiday season, Liberty Mutual Insurance and Holly Robinson Peete, actress, philanthropist and mother of four, are teaming up to raise awareness and spread simple tips to keep families safe this holiday by encouraging moms to set aside a few moments before the holiday rush to review fire safety precautions and response plans with their family at BeFireSmart.com. The website is a great resource for parents and educators offering tips for talking with children about fire safety, how to prevent fires and how to create a family escape plan should a fire break out. Games and activities such as a free downloadable coloring book further engage children as they learn how to spot potential fire risks and help to keep their families safe.
Having a house fire just over 2 years ago, this is such a great website for our family to visit and to discuss. No one knows if a tragedy of a fire can happen to them. Thank you Mom Central for this website information and the opportunity to help spread the word to everyone the importance of making ourselves more educated about fire safety and family plans in case of a fire.
Also, thanks to Liberty Mutual for raising the awareness of fire safety and precautions!
