Chicken Soup for the Soul: "Tough Times, Tough People" (2 giveaways)

With the economy struggling right now, it is a great time for reading. There is something so relaxing to sitting down and reading a book. Maybe it is because you can "get lost" within the pages of the book.

I was recently sent the "Chicken Soup for the Soul: Tough Times, Tough People" book to review. This book is packed with 101 stories about overcoming the economic crisis and other challenges we may be facing. These tough times we are in won't last forever, as the seasons change...and this book reminds us that. One great thing about going though the tough times is making tough people.
Tough Times, Tough People is a book with several inspirational stories. I love how the Chicken Soup for the Soul books have a page-two pages for their stories...easy to read, and quick. Being a Mom, it can be a challenge to find the time to read, but Chicken Soup for the Soul books are perfect for a quick lift with a motivational story.
From the back cover:
Chicken Soup for the Soul: Tough Times, Tough people will encourage, inspire, and support you through all types of difficult situations, whether financial, health-related, family or personal issues. Read 101 personal stories from real people about meeting their challenges: downsizing and enjoying a simpler life, finding the silver lining in layoffs and other economic troubles, living with illness and disability, surviving natural disasters, grief and healing, the value of family and friends, and 10 bonus stories of faith to pull through.
Available at Amazon: $10.17.
I love the faith inspired stories that the Chicken Soup books have! Almost every time I read the stories, I feel so great and learn something from someone else.
I think this book is so fitting for what most are facing and enduring right now.

  12. We have five people in our family living on one salary, and while I don't consider us to be poor, I am aware that most people that I know would consider us to be poor. My defintion of poor is going to bed hungry, but my in-laws consider someone "poor" if he doesn't have a plasma TV, so it's all relative. I have been through some tough times in the past, but now is the best time of my life, so no complaints.

  15. Without going into too many sordid details, I must admit that I have led a tumultuous life. Dealing with depression since age sixteen, in an abusive relationship for over a decade (now ended thankfully!), and currently a single mom, trying to find balance in these uncertain times. All I can say is: Thank goodness for chicken soup! My family, my friends, my fiance, and my SON, my wonderfully amazing son :)

  20. OK, I work FT, go to school FT and have had to cut classes down from 5 a semester to 2 because the tuition is too high and books cost too much. Still paying my daughter's college bill while trying to go to school myself. Car broke down so am temporarily using my daughter's old truck. I'm 60 yrs old so I must say that I come from a "TOUGH" stock but man the challenges are TOUGH going! My motto "Keep on keeping on!" Is that in the book????? Would love to win the book!! I'll read it and pass it on to another struggling soul!!!!

  44. We have 3 children and are living paycheck to paycheck. Some months we have to pick which bills to pay and which to hope we can pay next month. My husband and I are working opposite each other because we can not afford a sitter and so we barely see each other. It's really hard but I have faith that one day things will be easier. I trust in God and no matter how tough things get we always pull through.

  45. father of four teens (at home) and a twenty year-old. had to take a job in another state taking a $20K pay cut, walked away from home (in line for foreclosure), bounced rent, brakes out on mini van (which I am 3 payments behind on, as well as the other smaller care)... oh, and the tire blew on the van, too! Sitting here now getting studs replaced from blow out... marriage problems (in therapy) and having to sell my dreams, my recording studio, before I even am able to get it really going... to pay bills.
I am at my end! I'm not lazy... though I may be stupid! I could use some positive...

  49. Well we are living paycheck to paycheck at the moment and my husband has a slew of health problems going on at the moment to which health insurance thankfully helps us with. But his company is facing restructuring and major layoffs, and if he's laid off it would be devastating. But I know of plenty of people in the same boat these days, so I'm sure many people could benefit from this book!

  51. Life is like a road with a lot of hills and turns. You can't see what lies ahead. In 1999, the parent company shut down the store where I'd been working for two-and-a-half years (the same store and manager that had been my first job, too). My husband was unemployed with health issues. We had a lot of debt from when we closed our own business plus the medical bills. About three months after the store closed, I got a part-time job, ended up getting 40 hours soon after when someone took medical leave, when he came back I got a promotion, then another promotion and within six months, I was making a better salary than when the store closed. You just never can tell what's around that next bend in the road.
